Blog #5
ELA Standards
The standard I chose is
in the first-grade standards. It essentially means that are able to use a multitude
of digital tools in your classroom. This includes but is not limited to
smartboards, blogs, and online graphics. Where I am at currently, I feel mildly
confident in my abilities to complete this standard. This course especially is
helping me become better with technology, but I still have a lot to learn.
Technology is one of those things where this is always room to grow and improve
in since it is constantly adapting.
Educator Toolkit
I chose the mathematics
tools in the first-grade toolkit. First-grade is the beginning of diving in
deep to really important math basics. This toolkit provides lesson plans
(including virtual and non-virtual resources), student tutorials/resources, and
lastly formative assessments as well. Assessments are extremely important for math
basics, so the teacher can gauge where the students are at and if they need
more individual help or not. Overall, it provides excellent resources.
Web 2.0
The tool I decided to
review is Diigo. Diigo is an annotation tool that is used for when you share
resources with other people. This tool is something that I can see being very
useful for high school and college students especially when writing papers or
doing group assignments. But this specific tool also reminds me of the comment
feature that you can use in google drive applications such as word or excel. So,
I am not sure how much I would use it in my current position as a student, but
potentially down the road in my professional career there might be a need for
it if there is a lot of collaboration work. https://www.diigo.com/
Peer’s Post
I commented on Erika's Blog (2/4) and Malyce's Blog (2/4).
Hey! You did a great job with the standards and describing them with first graders! I agree with your standard because I volunteered at an elementary school last semester with first graders where I watched them use smart boards in class every day. I also chose math as my toolkit because I think it is important for teachers to understand that all kids learn different so they might use different techniques but they all can get the same answer. So, I agree that assessments are important to use for math classes.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the technology thing! I definitely feel I could teach it (and use it myself), but there is much to learn! I just have to wonder how much more I know compared to high school students, which I hope to some day teach...
ReplyDeleteAlso, this is the first time I've ever heard of Diigo, and I'd love to learn more about it, as it sounds like a pretty handy tool!
Hi!! I really enjoyed your post! For some reason my computer won't show me your web 2.0 part though :(
ReplyDeleteIt's like the font is the same color as the background. I am not sure if it is just my computer or what. I appreciate that you said you are only mildly confident in your skillset to teach your standard, I do think its important to know there is always room for improvement too! It is nice to hear that CPALMS is helpful for math standards! I would think that would be quite a difficult subject to teach, so it is nice to have something to help. I think I'll use that resource for sure when I start teaching!
Hello! I also chose first grade standards. It seems like a lot of our classmates did, which is kind of interesting. I am also constantly learning about technology and always having an open mind about it! I am sure you will feel very confident after completing this class with your digital skills. I love how you chose the math toolkit because this age is critical for learning the foundations of math. Great post!
ReplyDeleteHey Mallory!
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem as Kemory trying to read the last part but after I highlighted it it showed up. I have never heard of Diigo. I wish I would of earlier because I feel like it is crucial to writing any paper. I also like the fact that it has the comment tool therefore we could use it to tell our students if they did something good or wrong. I loved your post!
Hi, Mallory
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear this class is helping me become better with technology. That's what I expect for you. You made a good point that technology is one of those things where this is always room to grow and improve in since it is constantly adapting.
Just to note, you might want to use a different font color for the paragraph about Web 2.0 which is currently invisible. I can only see it when selecting it.
