Data Collection

Data collection can be extremely important in the classroom. Specifically, for older grades like high school, college and even at the graduate level. When it comes to older students, they typically are pretty aware of their learning styles and if the teacher’s instruction is working for them. I would use surveys and data collection to see how each student perceived the class and any feedback they would like to give. I have first-hand given feedback in my college level classes and teachers have used it to adjust their course. This is a great tool to use to constantly keep improving.

Flipped Classroom

The flipped classroom designed is essentially where the majority of instruction is done outside the classroom and supplemental work is done inside the classroom. This might look like projects or online instruction when working at home, and worksheets in the classroom. This is good for students who need to work at their own pace, rather than the classroom set pace. But, could hinder students who don’t have technology or need a teacher with them for each step. I believe this method could be very helpful for some students, but not others. Personally, this method would have not been useful for me as a young student as I like a routine and structure.

Technology-Related Skills

This is sort of broad, but I would like to just feel overall more confident with my abilities with the computer itself. When it comes to software, updates, applications, etc. I am not very equipped on handling issues that arise with my computer. I feel very knowledge on specifics but overall need more education and practice on the computer internal processes. To achieve this goal, I can ask friends, search the internet and try to work through any issues I may face.

Instructor’s Post

Something I found interesting is how different each topic we all discuss are. In this class, I came in with the expectation that we would all discuss the same things and the blog posts would all very similar. But, due to all of the unique experiences we have had, the topics are very different. It is very interesting to read about things I have never heard about and even learn more about things that I have.

Peer’s Post

  1. Hi Mallory,

I agree with what you had to say about data collection. I believe it is very important in order to get feedback on the class from students and that it could be more beneficial with older students. I also like how you applied the flipped classroom to yourself. I agree that it would not have been a great option for me, however, I can see why it is becoming more popular as technology becomes more prominent in our world!

  2. I agree with a lot of your answers in this post. Regarding the technology that you would like to advance in, I feel the same way. I think that I could excel in a bunch of different ways with the computer because I think I only know how to use the basics. I also agree that we all bring so many unique experiences to our blogs that makes it more fun to read!

  3. Hi Mallory. That's awesome that you would want to use surveys and data to critique your own classroom! That shows that you really care about the students and what they think. I agree that I may not have been the most successful in a flipped classroom either because I like my routine too. Since taking so many online courses at FSU and now all of them, I have learned to better manage my own routine outside of the classroom but it is still tough. I also think it's interesting to see all the different things people talk about in their discussions and how different we all are.

  4. Hey Mallory!

I really loved your blog post. I can't believe I did not even think about the fact that students may not have technology at home or wifi that they can use.
